New to the series? Start with Book 1, The Crucible of Aeons.

The Crucible of Aeons: Alignment Pending is the second installment in an epic fantasy series about power, spectacle, and the cost of remaining human inside a system determined to turn people into stories.
After surviving the first round of the Crucible of Aeons, dragon-blooded fighter Kraven Veyrath should be celebrating. Instead, he enters Round Two injured, grieving the competitors who did not survive, and newly valuable to the Dominion Network. His refusal to unleash a full transformation has made him a public obsession: the “restrained dragon” whose power, identity, and closest relationships are now being analyzed, packaged, and sold.
The Crucible is no neutral tournament. Sponsors offer weapons, medical care, and status in exchange for access to Kraven’s body and bloodline. Cameras turn every act of patience into fear and every bond into leverage. When the tournament engine places Kraven in a Fourfold Trial with Lysa Morcant, his fiercely independent former co-survivor; Hakon Veld, a fighter scarred by royal dragonfire and determined to test Kraven’s restraint; and Sable Kyr, an elusive strategist who understands the arenas better than their architects intended, the assignment is revealed for what it is: a pressure chamber designed to discover what will finally make Kraven lose control.
Their arena, the Glass Meridian, weaponizes perception. Rotating translucent walls sever alliances, mirror panels produce false silhouettes, thermal systems react to dragonfire, and apparent rescue routes punish anyone who moves toward an endangered ally. Kraven and Lysa establish careful terms: trust each other to survive, refuse promises neither can keep, and never mistake tactical partnership for ownership. Yet the Network has already framed Lysa as part of Kraven’s story, while his bond with his companion Taren has been logged as an exploitable weakness. Protecting the people he cares about may be exactly what the Crucible is counting on.
To advance, Kraven must do more than defeat his opponents. He must distinguish patience from fear, trust from possession, and chosen power from forced spectacle. As the arena narrows and the Dominion Network escalates its manipulation, he faces the question the entire system has been built to answer: not simply what breaks restraint, but whether power released under pressure can still belong to the person who wields it.
Combining tactical arena action with political intrigue, media manipulation, and a character-driven exploration of agency, Alignment Pending follows a survivor who discovers that winning the Crucible only makes the system more determined to define him—and that the most dangerous battle may be the fight to remain the author of his own choices.
